How To Remove Date From Google SERP In WordPress

Removing data snippet from the search engine results page is necessary if you publish evergreen content on your blog. And if you are running a news related blog then you shouldn’t remove date from Search results. There are 2 major ways you can remove Date from Search engines.

Here I will show you both methods which you can apply to your blog to remove the date snippet from search results.

Before I Start the tutorial, I want to share the benefits of removing the date snippet and why you should remove the date from search engines. Let’s read the benefits below:

Increase click-through rate on Search Engine results page: People always want to read the latest and most of the time they ignore old one even it’s useful. While Google and other search engines show the published date in the description on their Search Results page then you should remove the date stamp to increase the click-through rate.

For example, If anyone search for “WordPress tips” then the guy will get lots of results and If the guy found something most recent then he is most likely to click on that. That’s why you need to remove or hide the date stamp to increase CTR. Let’s take a look to below the screenshot:

Above the screenshot I have marked date snippet using Red arrow and Without date snippet using the green arrow. Now let me explain the details guide to remove Date stamp on SERP.

Other benefits of removing date snippet is, You get more space on your meta description.

Remove Date From Google SERP

Here I have shared 2 different methods to remove the date. One is using code (For Genesis) while another is Using Plugin (For Any WordPress Themes). Let’s Check the steps below:

Remove Date From SERP In Genesis Framework

First login to your WordPress admin panel and go to Appearance>>Editor. Now click on the function.php from the right side of the current page.

remove date snippet from searp in Genesis Framework

Now find the following code on your function.php

remove_action( 'genesis_before_post_content', 'genesis_post_info' );
add_action( 'genesis_before_post_title', 'genesis_post_info' );

And simply delete the following line from the code

add_action>( 'genesis_before_post_title', 'genesis_post_info' );

And if you are using any other child theme where you have not found above the code then paste the following code to function.php

remove_action( 'genesis_before_post_content', 'genesis_post_info' );

Now click on Update File Button.

[Note: Removing the date snippet from search engines can be taken more than a week to display]

Remove Date From SERP Using Plugin

There is a plugin called date exclusion SEO which will let you remove the date snippet from SERP. Although this plugin has not been updated in over 2 years but It worked well for me on WordPress 3.8, Anyway, I am not recommending you to use this plugin because, It’s not updated version. If you are completely newbie and not familiar with code then you should take a try.

First install and activate the plugin to your WordPress blog. Now go to Settings>>Date Exclusion SEO. And do the following:

    Hii. Please help me with this. Your remove action in genesis removes the post info. But isn’t that possible just by unhooking it via the simple hooks plugin? Doesn’t the simple hook do that? Or is the functions.php a better way to remove dates? I would love to know because dates are strongly affecting my SERPS. Many thanks in advance.

    Hi, the Date Exclusion SEO worked. However, enabling the same functions as what was shown in your picture above, I found that the Title in my post was not shown. However, when I unchecked the last three boxes, the Title comes back. Would unchecking the last three options still work?
